Christmas Tips During This Pandemic

We’re in for a weird set of holidays this year. Covid-19 has put a wrench in most of our plans and traditions. In general, our collective health has been less than optimal this year. The holiday stress isn’t any less, either. It’s just different. Many of us have experienced loss – a loved one, a job, security, physical closeness with loved ones, friendships, you name it. We’re all grieving something this time around.

How do we cope? How do we maintain and manage our health during the holidays? It is important to continue to protect yourself over the holidays. Health should take priority this holiday season.

Here are some tips to stay healthy⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Keep your routine. This helps you feel less disrupted and out of sorts.

  • Eat healthily. Festive snacks and meals are DELICIOUS but can leave us lacking in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats and carbs. Make sure to keep eating well!

  • Exercise! Get those endorphins flowing, even if it’s a quick stretch session or a short walk. Anything helps.

  • Drink enough water. Most people need at least 60oz of water per day

  • Go easy on the fancy drinks. Too much alcohol, caffeine, and added sugar, while festive, can end up messing with your mood.

  • Eat 70% vegetables, and 30% other foods.

  • Skip dressings, butter, and gravy

  • Don’t focus too much on “the perfect holiday.” This leads to stress and disappointment when things go wrong. The important thing is that you and your loved ones are healthy, safe, and FaceTime as much as you all desire!

  • Acknowledge your feelings. Talk about them with a trusted person and/or journal. If you’re struggling with feelings of loss or grief, know you’re not alone. Give these feelings the space they need.

  • Eat mindfully and make conscious food choices

  • Be thankful and see lessons and blessings

  • Finally, don’t stress if you indulge a little! One day of overeating will not ruin months of progress. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s Christmas week! Whatever you’re doing this week and whoever you are with, just enjoy it! Stay safe and well this winter! We wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our team!
